Frequently Asked Questions

What is this?

The Dragon Wagon is a mobile Dungeons and Dragons experience. We bring all of the necessary equipment and materials to a location you pick in the Wilmington area. That includes a Dungeon Master (DM) who will guide you through an adventure.

If you have never played but are interested in trying D&D, this is the perfect way to learn in a comfortable setting. If you have been playing this game forever, here is your chance to switch things up!

Who is this for?

Anyone who wants to play D&D but doesn't have the time or resources to set up a session. We welcome experienced experts who know all of the rules, or brand new players who think this sounds fun.

Where can we play?

Where do you want to play? A table, chairs, netted canopy, and all of the materials needed to play D&D can be brought anywhere. Your backyard or living room, a park, the beach, your favorite bar/restaurant/cafe (with their permission), your office's conference room, and definitely tons of other places.

How far will you travel?

We are based in downtown Wilmington and can travel to nearby areas like Leland, Castle Hayne, Hampstead, and Carolina Beach.

How many people can play?

3 to 5 players is ideal, but 2 can still work. We can even bring along one or two fun adventurers to join in if you don't know anyone interested in D&D. No more than 5 people can fit at our table, but we can shuffle people in and out of the action without trouble if you have a group of 6 or more players that want to participate.

How long are the sessions?

From one to four hours, that is up to you. We can dive right into combat with a quick 1-hour game, or crawl through a dungeon for hours.

Do we need to know how to play?

No, the Dungeon Master (DM) will guide you through the game if you have never played.

Do I need to make a character?

Build your own character or choose one of our prepared heroes. You'll also choose what level the adventure will be played at and can pick between levels 2, 4, 6, or 8. Higher levels means more character features and attacks to play with.

What do I need to bring?

Nothing really. You can borrow a premade character sheet, miniature, and set of dice. We will also provide paper and pencil in case you want to take notes during the adventure.

Do you use maps or theater of the mind?

We try to use a combination of mental imagery, 2D maps, and 3D terrain. We own 100 battle maps, six reconfigurable dungeons, and two 4-story buildings that can be dissected.

How much does it cost?

$60 per hour for each session.

Anything else I need to know?

That pretty much covers it. We want this to be a smooth experience for you, so please let us know if anything is confusing or a hassle. We are still figuring stuff out and appreciate the feedback.
